Small renovation with huge impact: this renovation is featured in the Not So Big House series, Not So Big Remodeling: Tailoring Your Home for How Your Really Live by Sarah Susanka and Marc Vasallo, 2009.  Due to both budget and physical reasons, the objective was to create a more functional kitchen, breakfast area and dining area without adding on.  By opening up the kitchen by way of a half wall with columns, both the kitchen and the dining room became more functional and light-filled.  New windows were added grouped around a corner to maximize the angle of view and light.  Upper cabinets were reused and a new command center with cookbook storage was added – all within the existing footprint.  The favorite spot in the house is the new window seat in the kitchen – great for a cup of tea and watching birds and/or children.  Read more about this at http://bit.ly/aOLFtE+
